Strikes Amid Ceasefire
Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least 10 Palestinians on Thursday, local hospitals said in Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip, even as global attention focused on fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Times of Israel said the Israeli Air Force and Israeli Navy carried out strikes overnight into Thursday that killed top commanders in Hamas’s general security mechanism, including Hassan Labad, along with Asem Shabir, Abdullah Abu Kaloub, and Mohammed Abu Marek.

NBC News reported that Israeli strikes in Gaza City killed at least nine Palestinians overnight, with Shifa Hospital saying the victims included two women and two children.
The Times of Israel said the fatalities were the latest in the coastal enclave since an October ceasefire deal attempted to halt a more than two-year war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
In Gaza, the UN human rights office (OHCHR) said Gaza’s police force and other public servants were among those killed in “repeated attacks” and “routine targeting” since the nominal ceasefire began.
Voices, Claims, and Detentions
At Shifa Hospital, Walid Shbeir, the uncle of one of the men killed in the strikes, said, "They say the war has stopped, but the war has not stopped."
The Times of Israel framed the overnight strikes as removing threats, quoting the IDF statement that "The senior officials of the general security mechanism were eliminated to remove a threat."

The Times of Israel also reported that some 930 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since the truce began, according to figures from Gaza health officials, and that the figures do not distinguish between combatants and civilians.
NBC News said the Israeli military did not immediately comment on the strikes, while Gaza’s Health Ministry figures were described as generally reliable by United Nations agencies and independent experts.
Separately, the Los Angeles Times said at least 11 international activists attempting to bring attention to Israel’s blockade of Gaza were being held in Libya on immigration charges, while the Global Sumud organizers said the participants all had valid visas.
What’s at Risk Next
The UN human rights office (OHCHR) warned that targeting law enforcement personnel in Gaza has caused a collapse of civic and public order, with OHCHR spokesperson Mayy El Sheikh saying Israel as the occupying power has an obligation under international law to ensure civic and public order.
OHCHR said since January 2026 it recorded at least 12 attacks against police, killing more than 53 civilians including 35 police personnel, five boys, and one woman, and it added that four attacks were recorded in May alone, killing 12 police workers.
The UN office said the pattern of attacks raised concerns that Israeli forces apply “no distinction” between police personnel and fighters belonging to armed groups in Gaza, while Ajith Sunghay said, "Nearly eight months have passed since the announcement of a ceasefire, and there is no end in sight for the killings, the turmoil, and the misery."
In parallel, the Times of Israel said Israel launched its offensive in Gaza in response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, onslaught that saw some 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken hostage, and it said Hamas rarely publishes information about deaths among its fighters.
France 24 reported that Israel conducted airstrikes over the Gaza Strip targeting Azam al-Hayya, the son of Khalil al-Hayya, and that medical sources and Hamas said the strike seriously injured him while killing at least five people.
